Dual tire damage on the Mazda 323 |
The ice had some significant ruts and cracks. Rob and Nick got sucked into one and both tires on one side got ripped. They went back to Inuvik to get new tires then headed on to Eagle Plains. Glenn and Greg in the Subaru WRX STi blistered some tires in the same way. |

Montero on the Ice Road |
Paul and Paul from the Seattle area in car 13 get the award for the most time with their heads under the bonnet. Their Mitsubishi Montero is a feisty truck but the next day on the way down the Dempster they moved over for an oncoming truck and hooked the ditch. They laid it on it's side but both of them were uninjured. Sweep got them back upright and rolling but later the engine seized. Turns out the mechanic in Carmacks has pile of Montero engines. Including a sweet Turbo Diesel. |

Geocache We'd checked the Internet before leaving Seattle and discovered that
there was a Geocache at the arctic circle crossing on the Dempster. On the
way back it was still light out so we decided to go find it. |
