Original Air IntakeLast time the WRX was over at Smart Service, Hurrah!  I now have a easy to inspect fancy air filter (that will need lots of cleaning) and a great whoosh noise under power.  K&N says it will give you 16hp to the wheels and they include a nice dyno chart showing that happening on an ‘04 WRX.  But… whoosh… who cares?

The last photo shows the new intake with the air scoop back installed.  Yes,

AZ1000 Day 5

Well after a tough Day 4, Marinus decided to tear apart the external sending unit and mount a bracket and sensor on the car with magnets. The low tire indicator came on again. We held our breath and kept going, hoping that our turn to work a control would come up soon. But it didn’t until the very end of the section. But the tire held and we nursed it into town. We only got 52 points on Friday. Overall we came in 3rd in the EQUIPPED class and 4th overall. Mapleback/Von Kaenel finished first overall.

At the end of Sunday, sitting at 8 points, we were tied with Jeff and Marvin. So in a tiebreaker for the tiebreaker, it became: “The car that took the first one-sided point loses the tiebreaker.” And that settled it, we did, one control before Jeff and Marvin.

We rallied around some pretty tough roads today near Cottonwood. The current price is $10 per can! One car didn’t finish due to mechanical problems.

Another day of rallying in AZ. We started off in Payson, ended up in Cottonwood. We finished 3rd Unlimited and overall. The timed portion ended in the early afternoon, allowing for a casual drive through Sedona. Had dinner with the General and Fred who offered some good advice on sharing responsibilities and rallying.
