With a week to go before the Winter Alcan, Marvin and I decided to shake the car and ourselves down by hitting the snow between Merrit and Kamloops at the 2008 running of BC’s Thunderbird Rally. Tomorrow will give us the tally as well as send us back out into the snow.

The Portland area is home to some rally-crazed folks, including 2000 Alcan winner Paul Eklund. Way back in December ’06, Paul hosted an “Alcan Seminar” at his house, and out of curiosity Renee and I attended. Russ K. was there, and the veterans talked “of many things”, both scaring and encouraging us novices. [Narrator: As our tired rallyists fall asleep, we see the task gnomes hard at work, discovering new things still-to-be-done… will Zeno’s paradox hold this time, or will the car just go north on Feb.

As the morning of day two dawned, clear and warm, the reality of the day before started to become clearer. Car 3 (Jason and Brandon) were sitting pretty in the lead with 4 points. Great job, guys. TeamD ended the weekend firmly in positions 2 and three, both overall and in class. Thanks go to the rallymasters, organizers, workers, and sponsors of Crestline 2008.
