Day 7 - Alcan Winter Rally 2004 ItineraryPrevious Day | Back To Alcan Info | Next Day Day 7, February 24, 600 miles Today we leave Eagle Plains and retrace our route down the Dempster and Klondike Highways, past Whitehorse and west up the Alaska Highway again. The shorter route would have been to take the Top of the World Highway from Dawson City directly into Alaska, but that highway and border crossing is closed during the winter. Making the drive around is 500 miles longer! We may or may not have any timed TSD sections today. The overnight is at another remote location: Destruction Bay, Yukon Territory. Destruction Bay is along Kluane Lake -- only 20 or so miles from the historic spot called Soldiers Summit where the Alaska Highway was officially inaugurated on November 20, 1942. We will stay at the Talbot Arm Motel. Day 7 (34K): or watch the animated map for Day 7 (122K) Weather Along the Way:
